Cashing out at the 24 hour
but I’m losing count
Of nights I’ve spent like these.
When Ali asks “what’s up Kevin, how you doing”
Buddy, I’m fine.
Take my drink and sip it under your neon sign.
But no future endeavor,
Will ever be enough to answer.
No good introspection.
Can tell me why -
I’ve got time but I can’t tell
If I use and wear it well.
Am I just an ocean in the sun?
High on the crest of a busy drug.
When I’m still writing songs people can feel
Most of the time it feels surreal.
But some nights the white whale gets to me.
Forget that I'm living someone’s dream.
When I get lost in the numbers, again.
(When I get lost in the numbers)
My good friend, I’m finding
There’s just no method to timing.
That can say or equate
This random wave that we’re riding.
No countdown, no scoreboard
No bottom line to account for -
In a myriad of figures and unending lines.
When I’ve got time but I can’t tell
If I use and wear it well.
Am I just an ocean in the sun?
Bound to burn out on a busy drug.
Do you just want some joy that you can’t fake
A piece left of you on a piece of cake
Wait by the door to get your cut
Cause something’s just not adding up
When I get lost in the numbers again.
When I get lost in the numbers, man.
This is what I remember emo and pop punk music *sounding* like in the 90s and 2000s, but not what it actually sounded like. basking in the glow is an emotionally mature update of those times, and much appreciated. thepirc
The verse "Can't even buy a coffee without exploiting someone" got me. It really hits hard. For the entire length of the album it felt like the end of the world.
But to be perfectly honest, it's just how life is these days. And it's fucked up. szczur
If you've ever had to Google clumsy phrases to find a word that matched a feeling you could only feebly describe, and you ended up discovering words like hiraeth, sehnsucht, or saudade, The Million Masks of God may be an excellent companion soundtrack to your experience. joel
I got to listen to some of these songs live during Origami Angel's tour in 2022, which was a really cool experience. I loved them enough to buy a CD!!! KZDEX
